Rich Nassif was appointed as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Benedictine in the spring of 2012. Just three seasons into his tenure, Nassif has established Benedictine as a top program in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, tallying a 20-9-2 NACC record with 13 All-Conference athletes.
Nassif guided the 2013 squad to their first ever NACC Championship, finishing with a record of 8-1-1 in conference play and 9-9-1 overall, an improvement of nine matches from 2012. Nassif earned NACC Coach of the Year honors for the effort. During the year, Benedictine became the first ever NACC program to defeat Dominican University, scoring a 1-0 decision on the road September 25 to put an end to an NCAA All-Division record 104 match conference unbeaten streak. Benedictine reached the semifinals of the NACC Tournament for the first time in program history during the season and saw six individuals earn all-conference status. Additionally, the Eagles were regionally ranked for four straight weeks by the NSCAA and saw three individuals win the NACC Player of the Week award.
His team built off the success in 2013 to another big year in 2014, posting an 11-7-2 record overall and another 8-1-1 mark in NACC play. As the third seed in the NACC Tournament, his Eagles routed Edgewood College 4-0 in the Quarterfinals, earning BenU it's first NACC Tournament win in its history. Nick Kapetanos, a freshman, earned numerous accolades, including conference Freshman of the Year, First-Team All-NACC, and NCSAA All-Region. He scored the most points in a game of any individual in Division III with 11 points (five goals, one assist) on October 18 at Lakeland College, as well as ranked 13th in Division III with 18 goals on the season.
A first year head coach in 2012, Nassif piloted Benedictine to a 4-13 mark. The Eagles just missed the conference tournament and ended the season with wins in two of the final four matches including a 1-0 double overtime decision on Senior Day and a 5-1 road victory to close the season. Two individuals were cited by the conference as members of the all-conference teams.
Prior to Benedictine, Nassif spent three seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Northwestern University. Northwestern won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles for the first time in school history in 2011 with Nassif as an assistant, advancing to the NCAA Tournament and finishing ranked 22nd in the nation. During his tenure at Northwestern, the Wildcats reached the NCAA Tournament on six occasions and received a ranking as high as second nationally.
Nassif worked with the goalkeepers daily and helped mentor all-time shutout holder Misha Rosenthal as well as 2011 First Team All-Big Ten and Freshman All-American selection Tyler Miller. Additionally, Nassif was involved in all aspects of recruiting, conditioning, scouting, and travel.
Nassif graduated from Northwestern University in 2007 with a double major in history and political sciences. Nassif worked his way from a walk-on who joined the soccer program after an injury late in preseason, to a captain prior to his senior campaign. Nassif began his professional tenure at Northwestern as the Director of Operations in 2007. He holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
Nassif resides in Wheaton with his wife Sara, who also was a standout athlete at Northwestern as a three-time National Champion in Women's Lacrosse.
