Uli Ortiz has been named as the Northern Athletics Conference Position Player of the Week.
Ortiz helped Benedictine to a 4-1 week by hitting a team best .529. The Chicago, Ill. native posted three multi-hit games with four walks, an extra base hit, and a pair of RBIs. Ortiz also notched a stolen base. Ortiz saw time at both second a third during the week and finished 9-for-17 at the plate.
During the first game of a doubleheader with Wisconsin Lutheran, Ortiz finished 3-for-4 with a double, walk, stolen base, RBI, and two runs scored. Ortiz also posted three hits in the second game of the twinbill on Sunday in addition to a walk and a hit by pitch.
Ortiz is the first award winner this spring for the Benedictine University baseball team, which sits in fourth place in the conference with a 15-5 record entering the final weekend of play. The Eagles have already secured a slot in the six-team tourney hosted by Marian next weekend.
Benedictine (23-14) will meet North Central College in an area road non-conference tilt on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
