For the second straight season, Men's Track and Field has captured the Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor crown, though this year there will be no sharing of the title. The team came away from NAC Outdoor Championships meet as first-place finishers, earning 172.5 points over the two-day meet.
The throwers led the way for BenU, as the team had some incredible performances in the field events.
Adam Chocola, who was named the Field Athlete of the Meet, won three different events (hammer throw, javelin throw, and discus) and placed second in the shot put. The event that Chocola was unable to win was won by BenU's
Eric Kenebrew, as the Chicago native placed first in the shot put, third in the discus, and fourth in the hammer throw.
Also for the throwers,
Joe DeMaegd earned points in four different events (second in discus, sixth in javelin, seventh in hammer, and eighth in shot put), while
Tyler Monahan did so in three (third in shot put, third in hammer throw, sixth in discus). BenU also had two others earned points in the javelin, as
Brandon Ringler finished third and
Mitchell Tuthill came in fourth.
In the jump events,
Billy Sipek took home the title in the high jump, while
Michael Addison placed second in the pole vault.
Omar Lopez finished sixth in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump, while
Rodney Nichols placed eighth in the triple jump. Lopez also did well for BenU on the track, placing fifth in the 110m hurdles and seventh in the 400m hurdles. Also, Timmy Bugjasky placed eighth in the 3000m steeplechase.
Also on the track, the Eagles were strong in the 800m as
David Martin placed second and
Chris Dziagwa came in third. In addition,
William Toohey placed fifth in the 1,500m, while
Robert Miller placed seventh in the 400m.
BenU also earned points from both relay teams. The 4x100m of Miller,
Leonard Patton,
Minhaj Ghayur, and
Greg German placed third, while the 4x400m team of Dziagwa, German, Ghayur, and Miller placed fourth.
Coach
James Kluckhohn was named Coach of the Meet for the team's performance. Men's Track and Field competes next at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College on Thursday and Friday.
