2017 Benedictine Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Class

Benedictine University is proud to announce the 2017 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees. This year's Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 21.

ITINERARY
11:00 a.m. - Lunch in the Sports Complex Stadium Club for inductees and family
2:00 p.m. - Inductees honored at halftime of the football game
5:30 p.m. - Friends and family cocktail reception in Goodwin Hall
6:15 p.m. - Dinner and program

KIMYENNA ABRON
Women's Track and Field/Women's Soccer
Class of 2008

Kimyenna Abron was one of the top women's track and field student-athletes in Benedictine history. She still holds the indoor record in the 55m dash and 200m dash as well as the 200m dash and 100m dash outdoor records. Her 100m dash outdoor record of 11.99 makes her the only female in school history to run a sub 12.00. She was named an NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field All-American in the 100m dash in 2008. She also ranks in the top-10 in women's soccer history in goals and points.
 

EDWARD HOBART
Men's Soccer
Class of 1991

Edward Hobart was the first player to achieve 60 career goals and also tallied 29 total points in 1989. He was a four year starter and four-time All-Northern Illinois Iowa Conference selection. He was twice named to the All-Region team and served as the team captain his junior and senior seasons.
 

CARL JANSSENS
Football
Class of 1973

Carl Janssens was a member of the 1972 football team that set the single season school record for wins, notching a 9-2 overall mark and won nine straight games to the start the season. In 1972 he was named team captain as well as earning NAIA District 20 All-Star Team honors and was an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.
 

RUDY MICHALEK
Men's Track and Field
Class of 1965

Rudy Michalek was a two-time track and field team MVP and two-year team captain. He has an over 40 year career in long term health care and has been the CEO and COO of corporations. Since 1996 he has been the owner and president of two companies: Premiere Health Care Management and VJA Health Facilities. His pro-bono work has served at numerous conventions and conferences across the country.
 

JOHN OSTROWSKI
Coach
John Ostrowski put in 43 years of service to Benedictine University and has held numerous titles including football coach, assistant director of athletics and his most recognized role as head baseball coach. He boasts 990 career wins at the helm of the baseball program. He has tallied 32 seasons of 20 –plus victories, 16 seasons of 25-plus victories and his 2013 team matched the school record for wins with 32, set by his 2000 team. His 990 wins rank him 11th all-time in NCAA DIII history and first in Benedictine history.
 

AMY TRENCH
Softball
Class of 1994

Amy Trench was a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American in 1993 and 1994. She is tied for fourth in school history with 15 doubles in a season and was part of the 1994 team that holds the record for winning percentage.

*Per the Hall of Fame policy, Amy Trench will defer her induction acceptance for one year. Her Hall of Fame induction will be celebrated in the fall of 2018.
