Carl Janssens joined the Benedictine Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.
"It is such a great honor to be part of a tradition that started with the first St. Procopius football game in 1917," Janssens said. "The biggest thing to me is being nominated by fellow players and coaches to join the wall with all of the other members of the 1972 team as well as the other athletes honored through history."
Janssens started for three years on the offensive line at right tackle for St. Procopius College and graduated with a degree in math after earning four varsity letters from 1969-72. The 1972 team won nine consecutive games and features numerous current hall of famers. The nine wins are the most in single season school history.
"We expected to win when we ran onto the field," Janssens said. "The relationships developed during that time with players and coaches still exist today."
Janssens served as one of the squad captains of the 1972 team and was selected as an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American. Janssens also received recognition in 1970 and 1971. The Glen Ellyn, IL resident earned all-conference honors in 1970 and was selected as a District 20 All-Star on offense in 1971 and 1972.
A father of four, Janssens has been married to his wife, Bonnie, for 44 years. The couple is proud grandparents to nine children.
Janssens has compiled a 43-year career in logistics with 20 years spent at the management level. Most recently, Janssens has served as the vice president of logistics and facility engineering at CVS/Caremark. Janssens also volunteers in the athletic department at Benedictine.
"I learned the importance and strength of a team during my time in Lisle," Janssens said. "That culture was developed and reinforced daily during my time. Whether that be within our family, building successful organizations during my 43-year career, or across 20 years of coaching youth sports."
