Boland arrived at Benedictine after serving as the men’s soccer assistant at Northern Illinois University for three seasons. In 2011, he helped guide the Huskies to a Mid-American Conference title and earn a trip to the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championships.

During his time at NIU, Boland was also responsible for recruiting, fundraising, practice planning, marketing, and organizing community service projects. During his tenure, the Huskies recruited two “Nationally Ranked Recruiting Classes” with state players of the year from Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska, paired with top prospects both domestic and abroad.

While working at Northern Illinois, Boland also served as the Northern Illinois FC Director of Coaching and Player Development for three years. He helped grow the organization exponentially from 2009 to 2013.

Boland began his coaching career at Carmel Catholic High School, his alma mater, where he served as both the men’s and women’s assistant coach. In those two seasons his teams earned three conference championships, four regional championships, two sectional championships and a super sectional championship. His 2008 women’s program earned a 22-2 overall record and was a state finalist.

After his time at Carmel Catholic, he became the assistant men’s soccer coach at William Penn University where he facilitated video production and scouting while also serving as the academic liaison and recruiting coordinator.

Boland graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2006 with a degree in marketing. He has an NSCAA Premier Diploma and NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma. He and his wife, Jenna, reside in Geneva and have two daughters.
