Women's soccer comes up short at home

Despite domination in the stats, Eagles lose to Alverno, 1-0

Melissa Swanson had three of the Eagles' shot attempts Wednesday.
Box Score

The Benedictine University women's soccer team dominated Alverno College in most every statistic on Wednesday evening - except the one that counted most - losing a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) match, 1-0, at The Sports Complex. The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the NAC.

Benedictine held a huge advantage in virtually every other statistical category except goals scored.

The Eagles out-shot the Inferno by a 20-to-3 margin for the match, including sending five shots directly on-goal (all of which were turned away). BU took 13 corner kicks compared to just one by Alverno.

And so it went for Benedictine.

The only goal of the match came at the 11:07 minute juncture when the Eagles' inability to clear a ball in front of their own net proved costly. AC's Kelsey Kochanowski got possession eight yards in front and lined the ball into the upper right third - past BU goaltender Melissa Hernandez -  for the score to make it 1-0 in favor of the Inferno.

Benedictine came out and pressed hard, offensively, in the second half. 14 of the team's shots came in that second stanza alone, as well as 11 of the corner kick attempts.
