The Benedictine University women's soccer team saw both ends of the emotional spectrum in a short period of time in a 4-3, double-overtime loss, to Lake Forest College in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening. The Eagles are now 2-10 overall.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Benedictine knotted the match in the 56th minute of play when the Eagles' freshman phenom
Rachel Wilson broke free from 15 yards in front of the goal. With a one-on-one, Wilson went to the lower right third of the net for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
The Foresters put in goals in the 64th and 80th minutes to go up 3-1 and things looked bleak for BU.
However, in the 85th minute of play, newcomer
Rosa Padilla took a nice pass from
Melissa Swanson and netted her first goal as an Eagle to make the score 3-2.
With time ticking down in the match, freshman
Kelley Burke found a lose ball during a scrum in front of the LFC goal. Burke settled the ball, turned, and flicked it past the Raiders' goalie to tie the match at 3-3 with just 29 seconds remaining.
Regulation ended in a draw and the two teams went thru the first overtime segment with no scoring. BU goalkeeper
Melissa Hernandez turned away several one-on-one attacks to keep her team even.
Hernandez had 11 saves on the evening.
In the second overtime, with the less than one minute left, Lake Forest's Lisa Sorensen notched her third goal of the night for the match winner.
