Women's soccer loses to NAC defending champs

Aurora tops Eagles, 5-1

Rachel Wilson (2) had the Eagles lone goal versus defending NAC champs Aurora on Wednesday.
Box Score

AURORA, Ill. - Benedictine University's women's soccer team lost a 5-1 decision to defending Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) champion Aurora University at Vago Field. The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in NAC action.

For Benedictine, it was a tale of two halves versus the Spartans (4-2, 2-0 NAC), who have won all three previous NAC championships. AU led 1-0 on a goal in the third minute, as the score stood until the 22nd minute. Aurora would tally three goals in a 20-minute span to carry the big 4-0 halftime cushion into the locker room.

The second half showcased a rejuvenated Eagles' team who applied more pressure to the deep Spartans' lineup. Those efforts paid dividends in the 75th minute of play for BU.

Freshman Rachel Wilson notched her third goal of the season at that juncture. Wilson took a deft centering pass from teammate Ale Farias and drove the ball home to the untended net after AU goalkeeper Liz Wong had stepped up to attempt a stop.

Aurora added a fifth goal in the 82nd minute for the 5-1 final score.

BU goalkeeper Melissa Hernandez was kept busy by the Spartans attack as she registered 16 saves.
