LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Marian University on Senior Night at the Sports Complex.
Both teams scored a goal in the first half. Marian (7-8-1, 5-4-1) scored first with a goal from David Reinke in the 31
st minute. The Eagles answered right back with just over a minute later when
Creighton Goss found the back of the net on a penalty shot to tie the score at one.
In the second half, MU's Brandon Zipperer put the Sabres on top, sending a shot past BenU keeper, Hanley, in the 69
th minute.
Julio Lopez gave Benedictine a chance at victory with less than four minutes left in the game, finding the back of the net in the 86
th minute to force an overtime.
Marian took three shots in overtime and Mario Pinto scored the game winner for the Sabres in the 98th minute to give MU the 3-2 win.
The Eagles out-shot Marian 13-10 in the game with Hanley tallying three saves.
Men's soccer is back in action on Thursday, October 28 when they host Aurora University at 7:00 p.m.
