LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University women's soccer team used three first half goals and 31 total shots to defeat Concordia University-Chicago, 5-0, on Tuesday night at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
The win moved the Eagles to 4-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Northern Athletics Conference play. Concordia-Chicago is now 0-10 on the year and 0-6 in the NAC.
Freshman Megan Johnson started off the scoring for BenU, finding the back of the net in the 5
th minute, unassisted.
Nikki Jhanji would put the Eagles up 2-0 in the 20
th minute off a cross from
Rachel Wilson, who had eight shots of her own in the game.
Carly Madison capped off the first half scoring for Benedictine off a free kick from 28 yards out in the 36
th minute to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Just over a minute into the second half, Johnson tallied her second goal of the game, a shot over the CUC keeper, Lyndsey Garlich, who had six saves.
Nicole Esposito scored the Eagles final goal, a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net, over the head of Garlich, to give BenU the 5-0 victory.
The Eagles defense only allowed the Cougars one shot on goal the entire game while BenU took 31 total shots. Jhanji and Johnson had six shots each while
Melissa Swanson had two.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Friday night when they travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 6:00 p.m. NAC contest.
