Men's Soccer Soars Over Edgewood

LISLE, Ill. – After allowing an early goal and falling behind 1-0, the Benedictine University men's soccer team came from behind in thrilling fashion to defeat Edgewood College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.

The Eagles (4-2-1) allowed an early goal from Edgewood's Nate Hedrington in the 8th minute and were out-shot 6-5 in the first half. But with five minutes remaining in the half, sophomore midfielder Cesar Martinez scored unassisted in the 40th minute off a free kick from 15 yards out to tie the game.
Benedictine scored an early second half goal from freshman Jesse Ortiz on a cross from Alberto Mendez to take a 2-1 lead. Edgewood had several opportunities to score, including two penalty shots late in the half where senior goalkeeper Jim Hanley came up with a huge save to secure the Eagles victory.
Hanley had six saves in the game while Martinez and Ortiz combined for seven shots.
Check out Hanley's post game interview.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, September 22 when they travel to Lake Forest for a non-conference game at 4:30 p.m.
