AURORA, Ill. -
Creighton Goss scored on a penalty kick on the 77th minute to give Benedictine University their first goal of the game, but it wasn't enough as Aurora University downed BenU, 3-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference action.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 7-7-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the league while the Spartans are now 7-8-1 and 6-3 in the NAC.
Aurora took a 2-0 lead in the first half after Matt Houghtaylen scored in the 3rd minute followed by a goal from Jim Kelly in the 14th minute.
The Spartans out-shot BenU 19-7 and scored their final goal of the game in the 70th minute from Xavier Carrillo. Goss gave the Eagles hope after scoring on a penalty kick past the AU keeper, Nick Sloan. Aurora held Benedictine to just two shots in the second half for the 3-1 win.
Jesse Ortiz had two shots for the Eagles while Kelly led AU with four shots.
The men's soccer team is back in action when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
