Brittany Adcox picked up two wins on Monday night as the Benedictine University softball team swept Lakeland College, 7-0 and 7-4, in Northern Athletics Conference action.
The Eagles took an early 4-0 lead after scoring two runs in both the first and third innings. The BenU offense continued in the fourth when they scored two more runs off of a hit from
Jess Fijolek and a triple from
Steff Rybarczyk.
Benedictine secured the win in the sixth, scoring the final run of the game when
Kelly Mieszala tripled to score
Laura Christensen who singled earlier in the inning.
Adcox had 11 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the win. At the plate,
Kara Walsh and
Sam Corban were 2-3 while Fijolek also had two hits.
The Lakeland bats came alive in game two after scoring three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Benedictine would tie the game in the third when they scored three runs of their own that began when Adcox tripled to left field and was driven in by Walsh. Later in the inning, Rybarczyk and Fijolek would also tally hits as the Eagles tied the game at 4-all.
In the fourth, BenU added a run when
Cassie Cappetto doubled to make the score 5-4. After a scoreless fifth, BenU would add two insurance runs in the sixth as they went on to win 7-4.
Adcox again received teh win striking out five batters in 4.0 innings.
Brittany Wolski was 2-3 with two runs and Rybarczyk was 3-4 with two RBI.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host rival Aurora University at 4:30 p.m.
