BenU Flies Past Foresters

BOX SCORE

LISLE, Ill. - Meagan Johnson and Ale Farias both scored their third goals of the season as the Benedictine University women's soccer team defeated Lake Forest College, 2-0, in non-conference action on Monday night at the Sports Complex.

The Eagles (2-2) out-shot the Foresters 12-9 in the game and keeper Michelle Del Sarto totaled six saves in the win.

BenU took the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after Johnson was fouled in the box and sent a penalty kick shot to the upper right hand cornerner past the LFC keeper. Neither team would score the rest of the half as the Eagles took the 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Arias gave Benedictine some breathing room when she scored a goal in the 53rd minute. Lake Forest had several chances to cut their deficit as they turned up the offensive pressure, taking four shots against the BenU defense. Del Sarto and the Eagles held strong to pick up the 2-0 victory.

Johnson, Farias and Nikki Jhanji each took three shots in the game while LFC's Megan O'Connor totaled three shots as well.

Benedictine is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when they host Northern Athletics Conference opponent, Alverno College, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
