Men's Soccer Battles Lakeland

LISLE, Ill. - With one Northern Athletics Conference win under their belt, the Benedictine University men's soccer team looked to down Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon. After double-overtime the Eagles had to settle for a 2-2 tie.

Lakeland (3-2-2, 1-0-1 NAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play on a goal from Daiya Akiyama on a cross from Killian McKenzie. Mostafa Abdelrahman answered right back in the 19th minute to tie the game at one.

The Eagles dominiated shooting in the first half, taking 11 shots but the Muskies Ben Koepsell found the back of the net in the 20th minute to take a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles held Lakeland to just two shots. With less than two minutes remaining, Sam Odele gave the Eagles hope as he scored in the 74th minute to tie the game at two and force overtime.

Neither team would score in overtime as BenU held LC to zero shots while the Eagles took three.

The BenU keeper, Manny Martinez had three saves in the game while LC's Alex Piekarski totaled nine. The Eagles outshot Lakeland 21-8.

Benedictine men's soccer is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27th when they travel to Concordia University-Chicago for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
