LISLE, Ill. -
Nikki Jhanji tied the game in the 63rd minute but a late goal by the Stars gave Dominican University the 2-1 victory over the Benedictine University women's soccer team on Wednesday night in Northern Athletics Conference action. The loss marked the Eagles first conference loss of the season.
Both teams tallied three shots each during the first half but it was Dominican (6-3-1, 4-1-0 NAC) who found the back of the net first with a goal from Liz Phipps in the 37th minute to give the Stars the 1-0 halftime lead.
In the second half Dominican edged BenU (5-3-1, 4-1-0 NAC) in the shot count, 5-4, but Jhanji tied it up in the 63rd minute when she received a cross from
Ale Farias to send a shot right past the DU keeper, Megan Shulz, to tie the game at one-all.
As the clock wound down it appeared that the game would head into overtime but Dominican's Hayley Biggs sent a shot that slipped through the BenU keeper,
Michelle Del Sarto's, fingers to give the Stars the lead and the eventual 2-1 win.
As a team Dominican out-shot BenU 8-7 while Del Sarto tallied three saves and Shulz had two.
The women's soccer team is back in action this weekend when they travel to Edgewood College for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, Oct. 1.
