LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team opened the home portion of the schedule by dropping a non-conference game against North Park in pre-Thanksgiving action on Wednesday night.
A back and forth first half featured five ties and six lead changes. North Park raced to a 21-11 lead with 11:56 left in the first but Benedictine was able to respond. A 13-2 run over the next five minutes put the Eagles ahead at 24-23. North Park was able to build the lead to four with just under two minutes left before four straight points to close the half allowed Benedictine to tie the score 33-33 at the break.
North Park pulled away early in the second half, jumping in front by seven at 45-38 with 14:01 left in the contest. Benedictine was able to pull within four but the visiting Vikings again stretched the lead out to double digits. The Eagles pulled within five on two occasions but could not close the gap.
Alana Ferry paced Benedictine with a season best 16 points off the bench to go with two assists and a pair of steals.
Katie Hunzinger contributed 14 with
Michelle Gaede adding 13. Sarah Peterson led all scorers with 22 for North Park, 19 of which came in the first half.
Benedictine (0-3) will welcome North Central for a 2:00 p.m. afternoon affair on Saturday.
