ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team dropped a back and forth road contest at Rockford, falling 77-75 in its fourth consecutive defeat.
Following a strong opening five minutes, the Eagles trailed for almost the remainder of the first half. Rockford used a 7-0 run to take the lead and went on to hold an eight point advantage at one point before settling into a 34-28 lead at the half.
The second half was tight throughout as Benedictine scored the first six points of the half to even the score on a
Raphael Oglesby jumper.
Michael Woolf ignited a 7-0 run that handed Benedictine a six-point lead at 43-37 with 15:42 to play. The hosts again came from behind and neither team held larger than a three-point lead the rest of the contest.
With the game tied at 71 and just 1:58 left, Rockford scored three straight points and held on for the win. Oglesby connected on a jumper to bring Benedictine within a single point on a pair of occasions in the final 30 seconds, but Rockford hit free throws and hung on.
Tim McGinty recorded a season high 26 points and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Woolf added 16 points while
Jamison Montgomery netted 12. Oglesby tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Eagles shot over 59 percent in the second half.
Benedictine (2-7) breaks for finals before returning home on Saturday, December 15, for a 4:15 p.m. contest with nationally ranked North Central.
