Men's Soccer Drops Match at Lake Forest

Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of Lake Forest College on the road Wednesday evening.

Lake Forest struck for a goal less than five minutes into the match and never trailed in outshooting Benedictine 18-7. Benedictine tied the match in the 21st minute on a goal from Lupe Martinez, setup by Alberto Mendez and Eric Selcke only to watch as the Foresters closed the half with two goals, less than 15 minutes apart, to take the lead. The go ahead finder came less than two minutes after the equalizer.

"We made too many critical mistakes in the back," Head Coach Rich Nassif said. "Its impossible to compete when you give the other team a 1-0 lead five minutes in, work very hard to get a deserving equalizer, and then literally give the lead back less than two minutes later. There were segments where we moved the ball well and created attack, segments that we can definitely build on. But it's not enough when we're constantly chasing the game because of our own mistakes."

Lake Forest (2-1) netted three second half goals to put the game away, notching its first of the half less than 10 minutes in. Zorohn Reed stopped six shots between the pipes for Benedictine.

"We will get back after it during training this week as we lead up to Alma, Nassif added. "I am expecting there to be a lot of competition in training and out of it will come some guys stepping into new roles and taking ownership of this team."

Benedictine (0-3) opens at home on Saturday under the lights against Alma at 7:00 p.m. in The Sports Complex. The contest will serve as the 2012 Athletics Kick Off, featuring free food, raffles, and more.
