Box Score LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team was shutout 4-0 by Alma in the home opener on Saturday night.
Alma opened the scoring just five minutes into the action to grab a 1-0 lead when Julian Birge headed home a breakaway. The visitors added another goal in the final minute of the half.
Benedictine opened strong to start the second half but couldn't find a way to strike. Alma added another goal in the 67th minute and finished the scoring in the 80th minute.
The contest featured the first opportunity for the home fans to see the new look of the program with the debut of
Rich Nassif. Alma held a 16-7 edge in shots but Benedictine tallied a 5-4 advantage in the second half.
Zorohn Reed stopped thre shots in goal.
Benedictine (0-4) will welcome Carthage on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
