Last Effort Short as Men's Hoops Falls at Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Michael Woolf's game-winning shot attempt at the buzzer narrowly missed as the Benedictine University men's basketball team fell at Dominican 69-68 on Wednesday night.

Trailing 69-62 with 2:41 remaining, Benedictine scored the final six points of the contest and had a chance for the win thanks to a rebound of a missed free throw.

Benedictine led for most of the first half, grabbing a 12-point lead at 37-25 with 2:04 left in the half on a Tim McGinty layup. Dominican battled back, taking the lead with 12:34 left in the game. Benedictine responded, jumping in front by six points before Dominican took the lead for good with less than eight minutes remaining.

The contest featured three ties and eight lead changes. Despite having four players score in double figures, the Eagles had no answer for Taylor DeRoo, who netted a game best 29 points for Dominican. McGinty netted a team best 15 points while John Dodson added 14. Woolf and Luke Johnson tallied 10 apiece. Johnson controlled 15 rebounds, a game high, as Benedictine held a 37-29 edge on the glass.

Benedictine (4-16, 2-9) is off this weekend before returning to action on Tuesday, January 29, at rival Aurora. The contest is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
