Women's Hoops Surges Past Alverno

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team held visiting Alverno College to just four points in the final 3:10, posting a 52-45 win on Saturday night.

Benedictine led for most of the first half, opening the game on a 15-3 run capped with a three from Jillian Lipman. Alverno was able to close the gap to within three points at the half.

Vincenza Ranallo converted a three-point play with 2:50 left in the game to put Benedictine ahead 42-41. The points opened a 9-0 run which turned a 41-39 deficit into a 48-41 lead with :43 seconds to play. Alverno, sitting in second in the North, had led the entire second half up to that point after hitting a three to tie the game at the start of the frame.

Ranallo scored a game high 17 points to lead Benedictine, who held Alverno to just 29.8 percent shooting for the game. The Eagles finished the night at 34 percent from the field.

Benedictine (10-10, 8-4 NAC) will close a three-game home stint by welcoming Rockford on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
