AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team shot over 50 percent in the first half but could not slow down the leaders of the South Division, Aurora, in an 80-70 defeat on Tuesday night.
Benedictine never led in the game. Aurora jumped in front by double figures just over three minutes into the game at 17-7. Benedictine whittled the lead down to five near the midway point of the half when Dan Montano hit a jumper. A layup from
Jamison Montgomery brought the Eagles within four at 41-37 with 5:02 left in the half but Aurora went on to lead by 13 prior to a
Dale Renshaw three in the closing moments of the half.
Aurora used a 12-1 run midway through the second to open a 16-point lead at 73-57.
Michael Woolf finally put an end to the run with a three but Benedictine could not duplicate the first half shooting success in the defeat.
The Eagles shot just 19.2 percent in the second half and finished the game at 38.1 percent. Montgomery paced three players in double figures with 13 points. Woolf added 12 and
Luke Johnson 11.
Benedictine (4-17, 2-10) travels to Maranatha on Saturday night for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
