Inside Game Leads Women's Hoops to Victory

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team outscored Dominican University 30-8 in the paint, helping lead the way to a 64-58 victory over the Stars on Tuesday evening.

Dominican was able to hang around in the contest due to 11 three-pointers. Benedictine led for most of the first half as Dominican hit only five shots, four of which were threes. Benedictine held leads of seven points on two occasions but led by just one at the break (21-20) as Dominican closed on a 6-0 run.

Benedictine was able to build the lead up to six points with 15:24 to play when Sierra Dunner converted on a layup. Dominican refused to go away, hitting timely threes. The Eagles led by just a single point at 54-53 with 2:48 left but scored six consecutive points, all on free throws, to gain the largest lead of the day at 61-53 and finish off the pesky visitors.

Dunner paced Benedictine with 15 points. Alexis Joseph tallied 12 off the bench in addition to snaring seven rebounds. Joseph hit 6-of-7 attempted shots. Alanna Ferry also scored 11. The Eagles shot 44.4 percent in the second half and finished the night at 39.6 percent. Benedictine also held a 43-32 edge on the glass.

Benedictine (6-8, 4-2) will welcome Edgewood to the Rice Center on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. as part of Basketball Alumni Day.
