Women's Soccer Battles Concordia Chicago to Draw

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team rallied from down a goal to battle Concordia University Chicago to a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

Benedictine peppered shots at Concordia's goalie throughout the first half but could not find a way to score despite holding an 8-4 edge in shots. Concordia opened the scoring just before the half by beating a defender and striking a blast past Abby Gary in the 44th minute.

Shortly after the intermission Benedictine was able to even the contest. Giana Canfield delivered her first goal on a set piece off a corner kick from Nikki Jhanji in the 52nd minute. Benedictine was able to control most of the pace in the second half but could not find a way to pull in front. Tara Tarazoff posted an opportunity with just 10 seconds left in regulation but was denied.

The extra sessions saw each team create a strong opportunity. Jhanji, who accumulated 11 shots in the match, just missed a touch pass early in the first overtime. Concordia Chicago recorded an opportunity mifway through the second session but Gary made the save.

Gary stopped three shots in goal as Benedictine held a 20-8 advantage in shots with 11 coming in the second half. Benedictine also put together six corner kicks. Brittany Brewer collected three shots for the Eagles in the match.

Benedictine (4-9-2, 2-4-2) will host Lakeland College at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
