LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team was edged by Marian University 2-1 on Saturday night.
Benedictine held a 1-0 lead for a lengthy period, opening the scoring in the 24th minute.
Nikki Jhanji buried a penalty kick following a hand ball in the box. Jhanji owns 15 goals on the season, a career best.
The lead held until the 66th minute. Marian evened the game by bending home a corner kick. Just two minutes later Marian grabbed the advantage on a cross to the top of the box. Strong defense allowed Benedictine to keep the margin within a goal but Marian was able to run out the clock and clinch the final slot in the NACC Tournament.
The visitors held a 10-9 lead in shots. Jhanji posted four for Benedictine. Abby Gary made one save in goal.
Benedictine (5-11-2, 3-5-2) will close the regular season at home on Wednesday against Alverno College.
