LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team closed the 2013 with a 1-0 win over Alverno College in the rain on Wednesday night.
Benedictine created plenty of opportunities, peppering the Alverno net consistently. The Eagles registered 14 shots in the first half, breaking through in the 23rd minute.
Rachael Hodison put away a ball that was won at midfield by
Hayley Gerdes and scooted past the defense, dropping the ball into a wide open vacant net. The goal was the third of the season for Hodison.
For the contest, Benedictine held a 19-8 edge in shots.
Nikki Jhanji recorded seven shots to pace Benedictine while Hodison added three. Abby Gary stopped four shots in goal, all in the second half when the shots were even at 5-5.
During the closing moments of the contest the seniors were taken off the field one final time for a nice moment of recognition.
Benedictine finished with more wins than last season while improving their standing in the conference with an overall mark of 6-11-2 and a 4-5-2 mark in NACC play.
