Women's Basketball Season Ends in Semis

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 69-47 loss at Wisconsin Lutheran in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Benedictine held an early 5-4 lead on a jumper from Vincenza Ranallo with 17:26 to play in the first half. Wisconsin Lutheran then went on a 17-0 over nearly six minutes to open a 21-5 advantage. The Eagles trailed by as many as 17 points in the half and were down 13 at the break.

Benedictine scored five straight points to open the second half to claw within eight points on a three from Michelle Gaede and a layup from Alanna Ferry. Wisconsin Lutheran tallied five straight in response and again stretched the lead to 17 points at 46-29 with 12:29 to play.

The Eagles used an 8-0 run to again pull within double figures at 46-37. Gaede scored six points during the run on a three, a jumper, and a free throw. Meghan Novak capped the stretch with a pair of free throws. Benedictine scored just eight points over the final 9:31 of the game as Wisconsin Lutheran went on to lead by 24 and streak to the victory.

Gaede scored 16 points and Ranallo finished with 15 to lead Benedictine in the season ending defeat.

Wisconsin Lutheran, the top seed in the conference tournament, won all three meetings with Benedictine this season. The Warriors have ended the season for Benedictine in each of the last three years.

Benedictine concluded the season with a 14-13 mark, taking a step forward by earning a home game in the conference tournament and collecting a victory.
