LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team was shutout by North Central 3-0 on Thursday evening.
"Difficult result for us tonight," head coach
Rich Nassif said. "The effort, the spirit, and the thought process were all there, we just did not have the plays on either end to put the score in our favor. We continue to put together a more complete game, but still have a ways to go."
North Central was the second of six opponents on the non-conference slate from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Cardinals opened the scoring with a quick strike in the seventh minute. The goal was the only scoring in the opening 45 minutes.
North Central sealed the win with a pair of goals in the second half, finding the back of the net in the 66th and 81st minutes. Benedictine mounted several strong challenges but could never put one through. The Eagles were outshot 17-7 in the contest.
Jonny Lehman and
Anes Kadiric posted three apiece.
Derek Catlett played the entire contest in goal, recording four saves.
Benedictine (1-3) will face another CCIW opponent in non-conference action on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. with a trip to Illinois Wesleyan.
"The progress is visible," Nassif added. "The coaches see it and our players see it, we just need to keep making positive strides over the next week. We have another opportunity to compete Sunday in Bloomington and need to come out with the intensity and rhythm we showed at times tonight. With two days of focused, productive training, I am certain we'll be prepared to put together a winning performance on Sunday."
