MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team opened conference play by battling Wisconsin Lutheran to a scoreless draw.
"As a team we were frustrated not to get three points on the road," head coach
Rich Nassif said. "We really moved the ball well, and particularly over the last 65 minutes were all over them. Even though the winning effort was there, we are still searching for that final ball or finish."
Benedictine had plenty of opportunities to open conference play on a solid note, hitting the crossbar and missing a few point blank opportunities in overtime. The Eagles held a 20-17 edge in shots with seven coming in extra time along with five corners.
The final opportunity came with less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, but
Edgar Reyes was denied.
Zorohn Reed played the entire 110 minutes in goal, registering eight saves.
Jonny Lehman and
Anes Kadiric posted three shots on goal apiece. Kadiric led Benedictine with seven shots overall.
"We'll take a point on the road, learn from all the positives in this game and continue to work on the final piece," Nassif added. "We're knocking on the door but have another chance to break out against perennial conference champion Dominican on Wednesday."
