RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Nikki Jhanji scored with less than 10 minutes remaining to lift the Benedictine University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon.
Jhanji's goal was her second of the match and seventh of the season. Jhanji put home the winner in the 82nd minute on a feed from
Hayley Gerdes.
Dominican tallied the game's first goal in the 18th minute. Benedictine battled back to even the game in the 36th minute on a goal from
Jackie Elzakhem from 15 yards out following a failed clearance. Less than a minute later Jhanji tallied her first goal to put the Eagles in front. Jhanji put home a cross from
Brittany Brewer in the box, beating the keeper to the far post.
The hosts tied the game in the 73rd minute. Benedictine held an 18-8 advantage in shots led by eight from Jhanji including five on goal. Elzakhem added four shots. Abby Gary stopped three shots in goal.
Benedictine (3-5-1, 1-1-1) had not beaten Dominican in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference era. The conference began play in 2006. The Eagles will welcome Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
