LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to the University of Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
Chicago opened a 3-0 lead in the first half. The Maroons needed less than five minutes to open a 1-0 lead and added to the advantage in the 15th minute. The Maroons extended the lead in the 37th minute and capped the scoring in the 48th minute.
"Today we faced a very skilled, cohesive Chicago team and did not come out with the focus and competitiveness we needed," head coach
Rich Nassif stated. "They jumped out to an early lead and really imposed their game on us, especially in that first half."
Derek Catlett played the entire game in goal, making six saves for Benedictine (1-2). The Eagles were outshot 20-4 in the contest.
Anes Kadiric posted two of the shots for Benedictine.Â
"We scheduled a very tough stretch in our non-conference portion knowing our guys would be challenged to raise the level of our play right out the gates," Nassif added. "We are now two games into that five game stretch and have definitely learned a lot about ourselves. The hope is that we can start to eliminate some of our weaknesses with our next match on Thursday and start gaining some momentum heading into the conference slate. It's a process for us right now. At times we had six freshmen and three transfers on the field. That's no excuse but for any one of the guys on the field, there's chemistry and understanding that just has not been built this early into the season. We know it will come, we jus need that process to keep moving forward."
