Men’s Soccer Ready for Two NACC Matches

The Benedictine University men's soccer team has two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches this week. BenU will host Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday night before traveling to Lakeland College on Saturday.

Benedictine (6-6-1, 5-1) sits in third place in the NACC after falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering 2-1 in overtime on Saturday. The Raiders scored off of a set piece with just four seconds remaining in the first overtime to seal the victory. As of now, Dominican University leads the NACC with 18 points (6-1 record), followed by MSOE (5-0) and Benedictine (5-1) with 15 points each.

Wednesday: vs. Concordia-Chicago (6-4-2, 3-2), 7:00 p.m.

Behind BenU and MSOE in the NACC standings are three teams with nine points each. One of those schools is Concordia-Chicago, who will play at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex on Wednesday night. After a 7-0 loss to MSOE on September 27, the Cougars have won three out of the last four contests. CUC defeated Beloit College in a non-conference match, as well as Lakeland College and Marian University (on a forfeit) in NACC matchups. The one loss in that span came in a non-conference game against North Central College, a school that also defeated BenU earlier this season.

The Eagles and Cougars have split matchups the last four seasons, with the Eagles winning in 2013 and 2010. Last season, Benedictine defeated CUC 2-0 on the road behind two unassisted goals from Jonny Lehman. BenU outshot the Cougars 17-13 in the contest and 9-3 in the first half.

Saturday: at Lakeland (4-8-1, 1-5), 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Eagles will head north to Plymouth, Wisconsin to oppose Lakeland. The Muskies have dropped five straight conference games and five of six overall since defeating Rockford University to open the NACC schedule on September 20, with the only win coming against Maranatha Baptist University last Tuesday. Lakeland will play a non-conference match at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Wednesday before playing BenU on Saturday.

The Eagles have enjoyed success against the Muskies in recent years, having not lost to the eastern Wisconsin school since 2009. Benedictine is 2-0-2 against Lakeland since the 2009 loss, with one of the victories coming 3-1 last season at home. Anes Kadiric, Edgar Reyes, and Ante Markotic all netted goals for the Eagles in the win.
