The Benedictine University women's soccer team has two road Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches on the schedule this week. BenU will travel to Concordia University Chicago on Tuesday and to Lakeland College on Saturday.
BenU (3-10-1, 1-4) split a pair of matches last week, defeating Beloit College in a Tuesday non-conference match and falling to NACC opponent Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday. Against Beloit, the Eagles outshot the Buccaneers 22-5 en route to a 5-0 victory, with two goals apiece from
Megan Anderson and
Paige Velez. The Eagles were able to keep Saturday's matchup close, but two late goals from MSOE resulted in a 3-0 BenU defeat.
Tuesday: at Concordia-Chicago (9-5, 2-4), 3:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Eagles will play at a Concordia-Chicago team that's won two straight contests. The Cougars have outscored opponents 11-3 in the two victories, defeating non-conference foe Maranatha Baptist University 6-3 and Lakeland 5-0. CUC is 3-1 this month, also defeating Mount Mary University 7-0. At 2-4 in NACC play, the Cougars sit in seventh place in the conference standings.
The Eagles and Cougars have played some tightly contested matches in recent years. Over the last three seasons, the Eagles are 0-1-2 against the Cougars, with the Cougars outscoring BenU 3-2 in the three matches. BenU's last victory over the Cougars came back in 2010, coming away with a 5-0 victory at BenU.
Saturday: at Lakeland (2-11-1, 0-5), 1:00 p.m.
Benedictine will head north on Saturday to take on a struggling Lakeland team. The Muskies are 0-7-1 over the last eight contests and have not scored a goal in five NACC matches. On the season, Lakeland has scored 14 goals in 14 matches, with nine of those coming in a 9-0 victory over Eureka College on September 6.
The Eagles have played Lakeland well in recent years, defeating the Muskies in each of the past five seasons. In last years's matchup, the Eagles won 5-0 in Lisle behind a 22-7 shot advantage. Current Eagles
Tara Tarazoff and
Rachael Hodison each tallied a goal and an assist in the victory.
