On Saturday, the Benedictine University women's soccer team will take the field for the first time in a week. The Eagles will host Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent Concordia University Wisconsin at 3:30 p.m. at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex.
Benedictine (2-8-1, 1-2) played its most recent match took place last Saturday at Edgewood College, with Edgewood winning 4-1. Unbeaten in NACC play, Edgewood built a 4-0 lead behind three second half goals. In the 89th minute, BenU was able to get on the board courtesy of the third goal of the season from freshman
Danielle Melotte. The Oconomowoc, Wisconsin native leads the team in goals and points (seven).
Concordia-Wisconsin (7-3, 3-0) presents another tough test for BenU, as the Falcons are one of three NACC teams without a loss in conference play. CUW has also allowed just one goal over the three NACC contests, wins over Dominican University, Lakeland College, and Alverno College. The Falcons dropped the first two matches of the seasons at Lake Forest College and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, but proceeded to win seven straight. However, Carthage College snapped CUW's streak on Tuesday night, defeating the Falcons 2-1 at CUW.
Qualifiers for the NACC Tournament last season, the Falcons have had success against the Eagles in recent years. Since the year 2001, BenU is 0-9-1 against the CUW, including a 3-1 defeat last season. Benedictine attempted just three shots on the day, with
Nikki Jhanji scoring the team's lone goal.
