Men’s Soccer Hosts MSOE Saturday

The Benedictine University men's soccer team has played some tough teams during the 2014 season, and Saturday will yet another test for the Eagles. Conference unbeaten BenU will host the Northern Athletics Conference's other undefeated school, Milwaukee School of Engineering, at 6:00 p.m. at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex.

Benedictine (6-5-1, 5-0) extended its winning streak to five games and moved over .500 for the first time this season with a 1-0 victory last Saturday over Concordia University Wisconsin. Steve Mack made six saves, and the game's only goal came courtesy of Ante Markotic (his seventh of the season) off a pass from Nick Kapetanos. In a 10-1 victory over Rockford last Wednesday, Martkotic added two more goals. His performance over the two matches earned him NACC Player of the Week honors.

With the team's recent winning streak, Benedictine has climbed up the national leaderboard in some statistical categories. Individually, Edgar Reyes' seven assists ranks him 14th nationally, and Kapetanos' 18 points ranks him 55th. As a team, the Eagles rank 14th in total assists (28) and 37th in total team points (82).

MSOE (10-3, 4-0) has been arguably the most impressive team in the NACC this season, as the team has scored more goals (39) and allowed less (10) than any NACC school. The Raiders boast one of the country's best player thus far, as junior midfielder Logan Andryk leads all of Division III with 17 assists. His brother, freshman Braden Andryk, leads MSOE with nine goals (tied for the NACC lead), while senior goalkeeper Garrett Farin leads the conference with a .857 save percentage.

The two schools have four common opponents thus far, as both have played Rockford University, North Central College, Wisconsin Lutheran, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Both teams are 3-1 in those contests, with the loss coming against North Central.

Since MSOE joined the conference in 2007, the Eagles have won just once. The victory came last season, as the Eagles defeated the Raiders 2-1 in Milwaukee despite being outshot 19-12 in the match. Anes Kadiric scored late in the first half to break a 1-1 and also assisted on BenU's first goal.
