After winning the first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament game in program history on Sunday, the Benedictine University men's soccer team is set to take on Milwaukee School of Engineering in the NACC Semifinals on Wednesday night. The match is set to take place at 6:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Benedictine's win on Sunday gives the team momentum heading into Wednesday's matchup. Third-seeded BenU defeated sixth-seeded Edgewood College 4-0 at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex. Four different players netted goals for BenU, as
Ante Markotic,
Santiago Beltran,
Bobby Kostadinov, and
Edgar Reyes all found the back of the next. Reyes and
Nick Kapetanos each tallied two assists, while Markotic and
Francisco Delgado added one a piece.
Milwaukee School of Engineering is the tournament's second seed after recording one of the best regular seasons in school history, as the team's 9-1 NACC record earned the Raiders a share of the NACC Regular Season title with Dominican University. MSOE fell to Dominican (2-1 in two overtimes) in the team's last game on Wednesday to fall to the second seed, but still qualified for a bye passed the tournament's first round.
Wednesday's contest is a re-match of one of the most thrilling matches in the NACC this season, as the Eagles fell to the Raiders 2-1 in overtime back on October 11. MSOE's Logan Andryk, who leads all of Division III in assists with 24, assisted on both goals, including a pass off of a set piece to Marius Presin to net the game-winner with just four seconds remaining in the first overtime. BenU's lone score came courtesy of Kapetanos, who leads the NACC with 17 goals. Reyes, who trails only Andryk in the NACC with 12 assists, set-up Kapetanos on the play.
The winner of Wednesday's matchup will compete in the NACC Tournament Championship on Saturday against the winner of top-seeded Dominican and fourth-seeded Aurora University.
