Three Games Ahead for Women’s Soccer

The Benedictine women's soccer team has a busy week ahead, as three games are on the schedule between now and Sunday. Elmhurst College will visit the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex on Thursday, and Monmouth College and Oberlin College will face Benedictine in the North Central College Tournament over the weekend.

Benedictine has taken two overnight trips to begin the season, dropping two games in California and Missouri. In net, freshman Maddie Frye has stopped 29 shots for a .725 save percentage. Another freshman, Danielle Melotte, leads the team with two shots on goal.

Thursday: Elmhurst College (2-1), 7:00 p.m.

The 2014 women's soccer home schedule begins on Thursday when the Bluejays of Elmhurst College come to Lisle. Elmhurst has played all three of its matches this season at home, falling to Dominican University to begin the season but defeating both Bethel University and Hope College. All three of those contests were 1-0 affairs, as Bluejay goalkeeper has not surrendered a goal in her last four halves of soccer.

Benedictine and Elmhurst met once last season, with Elmhurst coming out on top 1-0. Despite 13 shots on goal, Elmhurst, the home team, scored the game's lone goal in the 71st minute. Benedictine recorded just two shots on goal, one of which came from Tara Tarazoff.

Saturday: Monmouth College (1-2), 12:30 p.m.

Monmouth kicks-off BenU's NCC Tournament schedule, and it will be the first game the Fighting Scots will play in Illinois this season. The team began the season splitting a trip to Missouri the last weekend in August, falling to Culver-Stockton College and defeating Hannibal-LaGrange College. On Saturday, the Fighting Scots played under the lights at the University of Dubuque, falling 2-0.

Saturday's matchup will be the first time the Eagles and Fighting Scots square off since 2006. Monmouth was victorious 2-0 in the matchup, netting two first half goals against BenU goalkeeper Ashley Nielsen.

Sunday: Oberlin College (0-2), 11:00 a.m.

Oberlin, located in northern Ohio, will close out BenU's NCC Tournament schedule. The Yeowomen are 0-2 to begin the season, having dropped matchups to Penn State-Behrend and SUNY-Geneseo in Erie, Pennsylvania the last weekend in August.

Outscored 6-0 on the season, the Yeowomen will take on Defiance College on the road on Wednesday and North Central College on Saturday before facing Benedictine. Since 2006, the Eagles and Yeowomen have not met.
