LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 home loss to Augustana College on Saturday night.
Following a couple of early opportunities for each team, Augustana opened a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Benedictine kept on the pressure and evened the game in the 38th minute.
Ante Markotic capped a string of shots by burying a feed from
Nick Kapetanos. The contest was even at the break. After a shot from Benedictine, Augustana countered in the in the 76th minute to score the game winner.
"We simply are not playing at a high enough compete level to be winning," head coach Rich Nassif said. "Two matches in a row we have outshot and created more opportunities than our opponent only to be on the wrong side of the scoreboard."Benedictine held a 12-7 advantage in shots and put six on goal.
Edgar Reyes, Markotic,
Santiago Beltran, and Kapetanos posted two shots each.
Steve Mack played the duration of the contest in goal.

We are third of the way through the season now and despite some good soccer and some talented play, we need guys to step up and play with winning habits for 90 minutes," Nassif added.Benedictine (1-4-1) travels to North Central College on Thursday for the final non-conference game prior to the opening of conference play.
