Coming off a spit at the North Central College Tournament over the weekend, the Benedictine University women's soccer team will host two games at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex this week. The Eagles will welcome North Central College to Lisle on Wednesday and host Wisconsin Lutheran during Saturday's Homecoming festivities.
Benedictine picked up its first win of the season back on Saturday, when the team defeated Monmouth College 3-2 in overtime at North Central in Naperville. The Eagles scored two first half goals, as
Danielle Melotte netted her second tally of the season and
Rachael Hodison scored her first. In overtime,
Taylor Pokorny scored her first collegiate goal to give BenU the victory. On Sunday, the Eagles fell 1-0 to Oberlin College.
Wednesday: vs. North Central College (2-1-1), 7:00 p.m.
After competing in North Central's tournament over the weekend, the Eagles will welcome the nearby Cardinals to the Sports Complex on Wednesday night. On the season, the Cardinals are 2-1-1, defeating Oberlin and Central College, tying Bethel University, and falling to nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. NCC did not square off against Monmouth this weekend like the Eagles did, but the two schools will meet on Tuesday night before NCC plays the Eagles on Wednesday.
The Eagles and Cardinals met last season, with the Eagles taking the matchup 3-1 behind two goals from
Nikki Jhanji and another from
Tara Tarazoff. Last season's meeting is the only time the Eagles defeated the Cardinals over the past ten years, as the Cardinals won the previous five contests.
Saturday: Homecoming vs. Wisconsin Lutheran (2-3-2), 12:00 p.m.
Saturday looks to be an important day for BenU Athletics. Not only is it Homecoming and three home athletic events are scheduled at the Sports Complex, but it is also the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener for both soccer teams. The women will take on Wisconsin Lutheran, who currently hold a three-game losing streak, having been outscored 14-1 over that span. Prior to traveling to Lisle, the Warriors have a chance to end the skid with a matchup at Carroll University on Wednesday.
The Warriors finished in ninth place in the NACC last season with a 2-7-2 record, but managed to tie Benedictine 2-2 last season. BenU has played Wisconsin Lutheran well in recent years, holding a 6-0-2 advantage against the Warriors since the NACC was formed in 2006. Wisconsin Lutheran last defeated the Eagles back in 2005, winning in Lisle 3-2.
