The Benedictine University women's cross country team competed at the Aurora University Spartan Classic on Friday night. BenU placed seventh in the event, which took place at Oakhurst Forest Preserve.
Julie Carroll led the way for the BenU women on the rain-soaked course, placing 29th with a time of 25:46.6. She was followed by
Tatiana Arturo, who placed 37th at 26:21.0.
Emma Berndt (43rd, 27:20.7) and
Rachel Scianna (44th, 27:23.6) both earned top 50 finished, while freshman
Sabina Bukowska placed 52nd at 28:28.3.
Despite the rainy course making things rough on the competitors, Head Coach
Molly Remley feels her team can draw a lot of positives from Friday's meet.
"It was nice to see Sabina, a freshman, step up as our 5th man tonight," said Remley. "Even though the times don't reflect it, we competed hard and got a preview of the conference course. We know we will be much stronger when we come back in eight weeks."
Women's cross country competes next on Friday, September 19, when the team travels to South Bend, Indiana to partake in the National Catholic Championships at Notre Dame Golf Course.
