The Benedictine University women's track and field team competed well in its first meet under new Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson, finishing in eighth place at the Private College Invite at Carthage College.
Megan Malone picked up right where she left off to end last season with a great first meet, setting Top 25 marks in two different events. The junior placed fourth in both the shot put (12.05m) and weight throw (14.58m), setting great benchmarks for the rest of the indoor season.
In the pole vault, newcomer
Brittany Holst set a school record in her first Benedictine meet. She set a mark of 3.08m, placing third in the event.
On the track, several Eagles performed well.
Julie Carroll started her senior season off with a sixth place finish in the 800m, clocking in at 2:37.31.
Elizabeth Deely (5:57.79) and
Sherry Gaiser (6:15.11) ran well in the mile event, placing 12th and 15th respectively.
"I couldn't be more proud of the results we had today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "To set several Top 25 marks in Division III, as well as school records the first meet of the season makes us really excited. We will get back to work next week, stay dedicated, and look to improve our marks in two weeks. Today was a great start to the season."
BenU is back in action on January 31 when the team will compete in the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open. The Saturday event will begin at 10:00 a.m.
