The Benedictine University men's track and field team competed in the Chicagoland Championships on Saturday afternoon at nearby North Central College. BenU placed sixth in the event.
"The men came out and really competed tough against some great competition today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "Overall, we had very strong meet, and I am excited for the meets to come."
Eric Kenebrew highlighted the meet for the Eagles, setting a school record in the weight throw and moving into the Top 15 in the Division III National rankings. He finished second in the meet's event at 17.92m. In addition, Kenebrew placed second in the weight throw at 15.61m.
Joe DeMaegd (fifth in weight throw, 17th in the shot put) and
Gerald Valenzuela (seventh in weight throw, sixth in the shot put) also performed well in the throw events. In the high jump,
Billy Sipek followed up his NACC Player of the Week Award with a second place finish at 2.02m.
On the track,
Marcus Griffith had another solid meet, placing third in the 60m hurdles.
Joe Chavez had a strong performance in the mile run, placing ninth at 4:21.82. In the 800m,
Chris Dziagwa placed 21st with a time of 2:02.69.
Men's track and field competes next on Saturday, February 21 at Olivet Nazarene University.
