On Friday night, the Benedictine University women's track and field team competed in the Chicagoland Championships at North Central College. BenU placed 15th in the event.
Once again,
Megan Malone was strong in the weight throw. The junior placed in the top ten in two events, finishing sixth in the weight throw at 14.80m and eighth in the shot put at 12.10m. On the track,
Elizabeth Deely performed well in the mile run, placing 23rd with a time of 5:41.17.
BenU also turned in some strong showings in the jump events, with
Brittany Holst and
Sarah Oprondek both performing well. Holst placed seventh in the pole vault at 3.38m and 16th in the high jump at 1.42m. Oprondek was not too far behind her teammate, finishing 11th in the pole vault with a 3.08m mark and 17th in the high jump, also at 1.42m.
"I'm really proud of the ladies for competing hard on Friday night," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "
Megan Malone continues to be impressive and consistent each and every week, and has set herself up for another great season. I was also very happy with the amount of success we had in the jumps tonight, as
Brittany Holst and
Sarah Oprondek are working hard and seeing great results from it. Tonight was a bit of a struggle, but we will continue to work hard and set our focus on the conference championships."
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, February 21, as the team will compete at Olivet Nazarene University for the second time in three weeks.
