The Benedictine University men's track and field team competed in the Olivet Nazarene University Invite in Bourbonnais, Illinois on Saturday morning. Benedictine finished in fourth in the large meet.
"The men had another great week led by
Eric Kenebrew breaking his school record in the weigh throw and moving to 11th in the country in the event," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "Eric was not the only thrower who had a strong meet, as the whole group performed well.
Chris Dziagwa also had a great meet, winning the 800m run, as freshman
Joe Chavez finished a close fourth. Today was a great tune-up heading into conference next week, and I'm really excited to see what we can do."
The 11th-rated throw on the national leaderboard for Kenebrew put him in second place in the event's weight throw at 18.11m. He also placed second in the shot put at 16.09m.
Gerald Valenzuela (seventh in weight throw, 13th in shot put) and
Joe DeMaegd (eighth in weight throw, 12th in shot put) were strong for BenU's throwers as well.
On the track, Dziagwa on the 800m at 1:58.93, and Chavez's fourth place finish clocked him at 2:00.35.
Marcus Griffith placed second in the 60m hurdles at 8.37s, while
Omar Lopez placed fourth at 8.69s. Griffith also competed in the 60m dash, placing 14th at 7.43s.
In the jumps, the Eagles saw two athletes finish in the high jump's top five.
Billy Sipek continued his strong winter season with a fourth place finish (1.91m), while
Ryley Martin placed fifth (1.76m).
BenU will next compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship on Saturday, February 28 in Somers, Wisconsin.
