The Benedictine University women's track and field team competed in the Olivet Nazarene University Invite in Bourbonnais, Illinois on Saturday morning. Benedictine finished in tenth place in the large meet.
"It was another meet in with we saw consistent improvement," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "The jump duo of
Brittany Holst and
Sarah Oprondek had another strong, consistent week and are continuing to compete at a high level. In the sprints,
Nicole Millard and
Mary Kate Zayed continue to improve. I can't wait to see the continued improvement into the conference meet next week."
The Holst-Oprondek duo put up some impressive numbers, with Holst finishing fifth in both the high jump (1.50m) and pole vault (3.35m). Oprondek's meet saw her finish eighth in the pole vault (3.05m) and 11th in the high jump (1.40m).
Millard stood out for BenU in the sprints, finishing 12th in the 60m (8.52s) and 17th in the 200m (28.71s). In the 400m, Zayed placed 14th with a 1:05.83 time.
Benedictine was also strong in the distance runs, as
Tatiana Arturo finished ninth in the 3,000m at 11:29.35. In the mile run,
Rachel Scianna (13th, 5:46.20) and
Julie Carroll (15th, 5:51.58).
BenU will next compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship on Saturday, February 28 in Somers, Wisconsin.
