The Benedictine University women's Track and Field team competed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. BenU put forth a strong showing, placing third in the nine-team meet with 66 total points.
"The ladies picked the right day to have their best meet of the year," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Kevin Paterson. "We had two conference champs and three conference runner-ups, with
Megan Malone and
Brittany Holst leading the way.
Lauren Burish and
Sarah Oprondek also had amazing days. I cannot wait for the ladies to carry this great performance to the outdoor season!"
Malone led the way for Benedictine's throwers, placing first in the weight throw at 14.34m. She also placed second in the shot put at 11.61m. Burish earned points for the Eagles as well, placing fifth in the weight throw at 13.03m.
Benedictine's jumpers, Holst and Oprondek, also performed well. Holst placed first in the pole vault at 3.20m and also second in the high jump with a 1.46m mark. Oprondek placed second in the pole vault at 3.05m and sixth in the high jump at 1.41m.
On the track, Benedictine was very strong in the mile run.
Elizabeth Deely placed sixth at 5:37.15, while
Rachel Scianna finished eighth with a time of 5:44.22. In addition, the distance medley team of
Julie Carroll,
Allison Taylor,
Sabina Bukowska, and
Hayley Reagin placed fourth with a 13:54.37 time.
Nicole Millard finished seventh in the 55m dash at 7.76s.
Benedictine trailed only Aurora (244 points) and Concordia University Wisconsin (125 points) at Saturday's meet. The Eagles are back in action next on March 6 at the Carthage College Gill Athletics Final Qualifier.
