The Benedictine University men's track and field team sent a few student-athletes to the Gill Athletics Final Qualifier at Carthage College on Friday night. Marcus Griffith, Billy Sipek, Eric Kenebrew, Gerald Valenzuela, and Joe DeMaegd all competed in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

On the track, Griffith competed in both the 55m hurdles and the 55m dash. He posted a 7.66s time in the hurdles and a 6.90s time in the dash, which is a season-best for the junior. Heading into the event, Griffith was ranked 14th nationally in the hurdles and still sands there as of Saturday afternoon.

Sipek took part in the event's high jump and placd second at 2.03m. He posted a 2.09m mark earlier in the season, which currently ranks him fifth nationally.

The throwing trio of Kenebrew, Valenzuela, and DeMaegd. Kenebrew, who ranked 13th nationally in the weight throw and 24th in the shot put, remained in those spots after posting a 16.26m throw in the weight throw and a 15.18m throw in the shot put. Valenzuela posted marks of 14.85m (weight throw) and 14.32m (shot put), while DeMaegd came in at 14.76m in the weight throw.

"Very proud of the men, as this indoor season has been filled with new personal and school records," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Kevin Paterson. "I couldn't ask for anything more from this group. We took some great steps forward, and now the focus shifts to nationals."

Qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships will be announced on Sunday, March 8. The Top 15 student-athletes in each event will qualify for the national meet. The event will take place on March 13 and 14 in Salem, North Carolina.
