The Benedictine University men's track and field team hosted the Twilight Invite on Friday night at the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex, placing fifth in the large meet.
Benedictine was led by its group of talented throwers, with
Joe DeMaegd placing in the top five in three different events (third in the javelin and hammer, fifth in discus).
Eric Kenebrew also recorded a top five finish, placing fourth in the discus. In addition,
Gerald Valenzuela (seventh in discus, 14th in hammer),
Ryley Martin (sixth in javelin), and
Mitchell Tuthill (13th in javelin) all put together strong meets.
In the jump events,
Billy Sipek placed first in the high jump at 2.00m.
Omar Lopez placed sixth in the long jump (6.49m) before carrying the success over to the track with a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.95s). Also on the track,
Chris Dziagwa placed ninth in the 400m (50.94s), while
Joe Chavez (fifth, 9:10.80) and
Sam Venezia (17th, 9:34.30) were strong in the 3000m.
The Eagles are back in action on May 1 and 2 at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 1.
